| | Psalm 23 | | Here's the New American Standard Bible version of one of my favorite chapters in the Bible:"The LORD in my Shepherd,
I shall not want.He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters.
He restores my soul;He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His name's sake.Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil,
for You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil;My cup overflows.Surely goodness and lovingkindness
will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell
in the house of the LORD forever."

| | "Hell"- what is it? | | Is "hell" a literal place of everlasting torture or the grave where we all go when we die? Why do I ask this?Job 14:13(King James Version) "O that thou wouldest hide me in thegrave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!"Job 14:13 (New American Standard Bible) "Oh that You would hide me inSheol"Job 14:13 (Douay-Rheims Bible) "Who will grant me this, that thou mayst protect me inhell, and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a time when thou wilt remember me?"Could it be possible that many religions have misunderstood "hell" and made into something it is not? | |
| | Where is the hint regarding the rise of an Anti-Christ in Ezekiel 28? | | The Bible is full of contradictions. Reading it, I had the chance to discover something that created some confusions. The section I want to bring up is Ezekiel 28, 11-19
Although many writters claim that this segment of Ezekiel's prophecy is reffering to the "fall of Satan" or to the alleged rise of an "Anti-Christ", in point of fact such claims have no Biblical foundation and are only meant in order to harmonize the Genesis record with the secular geology.
Ezekiel 28, 12 - "Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord God[Jehovah, in original Heb. text]?" Could a text be clearer?
The next fragment however reflects some contradiction.
Ezekiel 28, 15 - "You were blameless in your ways/From the day you were created/Until unrighteousnes was found in you" (New American Standard Bible). "You were perfect/from the day you were created/until evil got a shelter in you" (Hebrew Bible". Might this reflect a mistranslation, to imply a meaning or to harmonize the tradition with the text? If we were perfect/from the day we were born - then where is the original sin? Before commenting, please read all the text of Ezekiel 27, 28. Then please...

| | God, Faith, The Bible | | I think I may be confused about all this talk about Christianity being the true religion and the Bible being Fact. I was raised Christian but now consider my self Agnostic.
I have many questions and I hope to find some enlightenment through intelligent discussions of this topic. I have come across many people on this site that are well versed in their faith as well as other faiths and I commend them for doing their homework because we are not hearing commits such as "because God said so". This is good. My reason for posting is to ask questions concerning the Christian God/Faith and the Bible.
So here we go:
1. Why do the different Christian faiths have different views of the same religion and which Christian view is right.
2. Why is there an Old Testiment and a new Testiment? Why are there several versions of the Bible ie: King james, The New King James, The New American Standard Bible etc.
3)Why is the God in the old Testiment Vengful and unforgiving but the New Testiment He/she is a kinder gentler
God? Why in the New Testiment is said that Jesus is God?
3. Which of the Testiments is more accurate? Which should be taken as the true book of God?
4. If God is a Perfect...
| | What Version of the Bible do you prefer to read? | | Do you have a version of the Bible that you prefer to use or read from? Do you use the same one your church uses?
My church uses the New International Version. Mine happens to be the New American Standard. Mine, also, is a Life Application Bible..it has notes and explainations of the many of the verses and chapters, as well as info on the writers. I find that while there are a few differences in wording between the two, I am able to follow along with no problems. When I go to Bible Study I am the only one with the NAS, so sometimes they will ask me to read the passage we are studying from mine, just to see what the text differences are.My husband is a die hard King James reader. I bought him a copy of the NIV, as he has recently started going to my church. He said it will take some getting used to. A friend from church suggested he get a parallel bible..that has the KJB and NIV side by side on each page. She is going to let Rick borrow hers, to see if he likes it before he buys his own.
