Luke 1:1-5 amplified bible (I love this version! "closely compared to the original Greek")Luke the physician wrote: "[1] - Since[as is well known] many have undertaken to put in order and draw up a[thorough] narrative of the surely established deeds which have been accomplished and fulfilled in and among us,[2] - as they were handed down to us by those who from the official] beginning[of Jesus' ministry] were eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word[that is, of the doctrine concerning the attainment through Christ of salvation in the kingdom of God],[3] - It seemed good and desirable to me,[and so I have determined] also after having searched out diligently and followed all things closely and traced accurately the course from the highest to the minutest detail from the very first, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,[4] -[My purpose is] that you may know the full truth and understand with certainty and security against error the accounts (histories) and doctrines of the faith of which you have been informed and in which you have been orally instructed.[5] - In the days when Herod was king...
Someone asked me today what the amplified bible was...I have never heard of it...any insight as to exactly what it is. Thanks
t you may know the full truth and understand with certainty and security against error the accounts (histories) and doctrines of the faith of which you have been informed and in which you have been orally instructed.[5] - In the days when Herod was king of Judea there was a certain priest whose name was Zachariah, of the daily service (the division) of Abia; and his wife was also a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth..."
John 19:14 (Amplified Bible)14Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, and it was about the sixth hour (about twelve o'clock noon). He said to the Jews,See,[here is]your King!Would Jesus make a good king (ruler) for this world? Why or why not?
Does anyone have a bible version preference when you are reading and studying? I tend to like the NIV and the King James Version. the amplified bible also is great but I tend to use the King James Version more than any other version. t you may know the full truth and understand with certainty and security against error the accounts (histories) and doctrines of the faith of which you have been informed and in which you have been orally instructed.[5] - In the days when Herod was king of Judea there was a certain priest whose name was Zachariah, of the daily service (the division) of Abia; and his wife was also a descendant of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth..."
Jun 24 - Don't Tell It Like It Is"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."
(Proverbs 18:21)--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Mike,Words are serious business. And, as believers, we need to get serious about learning how to use them. We need to begin to put them to work for us like God Himself does. The Bible tells us that He uses words to "call those things which be not as though they were" (Rom. 4:17). Most of us don't have the faintest idea how to do that. We've spent our lives "telling it like it is." We've constantly used our mouths to report on the sorry state of affairs around us. Thus, the very thought of calling "things which be not as though they were" seems a little crazy. "You mean I'm supposed to say, 'I'm healed' when I'm feeling sick? I'm supposed to say, 'I'm prosperous' when I'm penniless?" we say. "That sounds like lying to me." No, no. There's a vast difference between lying and speaking by faith. A lie is meant to deceive someone. It's designed to make someone believe something that's not true. But to speak by faith is simply...
I know it's not how many you have, but how much you read them... but still, I'm curious. I have 3 King James versions, one regular, a Thompson Chain Bible and a Dake's Annotated Bible. I also have a New International Version, The Living Bible, The Amplified Bible, The Message, and The Jewish Study Bible. That sounds like I'm more of a Bible student than I am, but it does help at times to read the same passage in various ways.
