The most abominable Indian Characteristic...
I had always hated the Indian psyche's love of glorifying those in power and kow-towing to them as the most abominable Indian behavior. The desire to respect ability and place it at a higher pedestal had gone by Krita Yuga may be. I mean the period of the Rishis. Later India, has continually slided down to such unabashed glorification of power that the whole of Sanskrit and Tamil literarture is a eulogy after aulogy of our sometimes nincompoop like kings whose almost mustard seed level of greatness will be blown up into a Himalayan Mountain. Both these beautiful languages of yore I find, is replete with literary works where whatever be the genre, they abound so much in hyperbole that I am nowadays not content to accept Swami Vivekananda's reasoning for the characteristic slavishness of our people to people in authority, and an intolerable amount of mutual jealousy, both of which he had attributed to periods and periods of slavery to one foreign rule or the other. To really develop into aJagadguru stage[ the modern term could be the so calledDeveloped Country] India first needs to re-establish itself by<1> Developing its own technology. <2> Developing military...

We visited Rishikesh
In the first week of March we visited Rishikesh. We had come to Haridwar for four days. One day we came to Rishikesh. It is a holy place for Hindus in Uttrakhand State of India. It is situated on the bank of holy Ganga and is surrounded by the Himalayas mountain range Shivvalik from three sides. Hindus start their Char (Four) Dham Pilgrimage to Gangotri,Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath for spiritual salvation from Rishikesh. Rishikesh is also famous for meditation and Yoga. This place is a heaven for adventurous people for rafting. It is the starting point of trekking expeditions and excursions towards the Himalayan mountain range. Lakshman Jhoola is the most visited spot in Rishikesh. It is a suspension bridge across Ganga and is situated at a distance of about 5 Kms from Rishikesh, on the way to Badrinath. It is said that the brother of Lord Rama, Lakshman crossed the river Ganga here on a jute rope. Originally, there was a hanging jute (rope) bridge till 1889 and the modern bridge was rebuilt with iron ropes. On the side of this famous bridge is the well known Shri Raghunathji temple. Lord Rama is said to have visited this place since than this temple is here. This bridge is...
