In church services, few things are as moving as the congregation singing together.
For me, I love the standards like How Great Thou Art and It is Well With My Soul (which has a brief shout out to "my lot", you can look it up.)Which ones are the greatest source of inspiration to you?
Our church is really into the new praise and worship music. I'm a part of the praise team and I am a big fan of contemporary Christian music too. But 2 weeks ago my church had an old-fashioned hymn sing! I think I was a kid the last time I went to one. We sang "victory in Jesus", "Blessed Assurance", "When we all get to heaven", "It will be worth it all (when we see Jesus)"and so many more. The men in the congregation were especially in rare form and occasionally we would split the verses with the women singing one verse and the men the next. What a way to worship and what a blessing to all who attended. What are some of your favorite old hymns? Do you have any stories associated with them that you can share?
What are some of your favorite hymns and songs of inspiration?
Here are a few of mine:How Great Thou Art
His Eye is on the Sparrow
What a Friend We Have in Jesus
O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing
Amazing Grace
A Mighty Fortress is Our God
O God, Our Help in Ages Past
In the Garden
Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
Holy, Holy, Holy
Going Home
The Old Rugged Cross
Let There Be Peace on Earth
Stand By Me
O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go
On Eagle's WingsI'll stop there for now! lol!
nothing serious, no one dies seriously in this war of words,
not really, just plain clean healthy fun, a mahjong game, pong and
ping, a ping pong ball thrown to the twilight zone, a dot dissolving in air,
and yes, the full moon, and the hide and seek of the trees, pulling seams
and putting back the dresses
caresses and buttresses
no murder here, just plain, clean healthy fun
pun, and wits and not tumors, humors, not tremorous but
fabulous, marvelous, garrolous, just plain, clean, healthy fun
no offense, no malice, no pubic hairs,
i like your dollhouse, the dolll has wavy eyelashes, and
her panty is clean and neat and white, i like the stack of cards,
and the tarot and the cubes, the dice of my luck.
just pure fun really, we say, we choose happiness, and desire
and shall i say lust? skip it. this is pure fun, clean and healty and wise.
the birds recite the prayers. the worms their novenas.
the frogs the hymns of paradise, the fishes spotted
are all chanting praises, basically gregorian.a dollhouse, a dole out, layers of dresses.
it is so hot and so warm she goes out to breather some air.
there is so much dressing the lettuce leaves are buried

I have recently started going back to church. I have always loved small country churches because i went to them w/my bigmama when i was a child.Everybody is so friendly& it is such a small congregation u soon know everyone if u didn't to start with. Two of my former customer & friends go there & have been going there all their life. Isn't that wonderful? The church i belong to has outgrown me. The last time i went there i did not enjoy it at all. I didn't know any of the songs they sang, noone welcomed me etc. They still sing all the old hymns i love at the one i'm going to now.Sunday night they started a revival & had a pot luck supper before the preaching started. U TALK ABOUT SOME GOOD FOOD. gOOD OL' SOUTHERN COOKING & U never saw so much of it.It had been years since i had attended a potluck supper like that & i really did enjoy it. Of course i blew my diet again.lol. I was just wondering do any of u attend a small country church? I wish everyone could do that a few times. It's great!!
In my country the Tulsi (Basil) plant is considered a holy plant and it plays a major role in the hindu rituals. In every hindu home one can see a pot containing this holy plant in the courtyard, balcony, roof top.Black tulsi is prefered over the green variety. Usually the ladies of our home light a ghee-lamp at its base and show insense sticks in the morning and evening. If space permits, one should go round this plant chanting specific hymns. Its leaves are not plucked in evening or at night, also on Tuesday, Friday and on certain days of hindu calander. While plucking also one need to recite hymns.
When we visit temples, we are given 'holy' water, its main ingredient is Tulsi leaves, it has medicinal properties. My father used to keep a Tulsi leaf behind his ears, now i learn, why, the most powerful point of absorption in human body is right behind the ears.
A friend who had a world tour told me that, in some country he heard about 'clustered water', sort of pure water. This prevents pollution. Two drops of this water added to glassful of ordinary water is a health-drink. It is now found that Tulsi water has same effect. Dr T P Sasikumar collected the Tulsi water used to bathe...

Often, atheists and others raise the accusation that Christianity has a negative effect on society but this is by no means true and a clear counter-factual can be found in the Welsh revival of the early 20th centuryIn the early 20th century Wales experienced a revival so strong that public houses were almost empty. Men and women who used to waste their money getting drunk were saving it, giving it to help their churches, buying clothes and food for their families. And not only drunkenness, but stealing and other offences grew less and less, so that often a magistrate came to court, and found there were no cases for him. Church services were held in packed churches lasting well into the night.Men whose language had been filthy before, learnt to talk purely. It is related that not only did the colliers put in a better day's work, but also that the pit ponies were so used to being cursed and sworn at, that they just couldn't understand orders being given in kind, clean words, so that the pit owners were forced to buy new ponies! Yet, still the work output increased. The dark tunnels underground in the mines echoed with the sounds of prayer and hymns, instead of oaths and...
