Hi lotters and as we are approaching Holy Week I wanted to share a book I have been reading during this lent season. It is called Jesus: A Novel by Walter Wangerin Jr.
It is the story of Jesus and not like the De Vinci Code BS. This is the true story of Jesus told from when He was born until that glorious day He died on the cross and rose again in three days for all of our sins.The author uses a lot of The Bible in it what he adds to it is the emotional feelings of Mary, Jesus, Joesph, etc. I will give you one example I don't want to give anything away. As you recall when Jesus was a boy He went to the temple. Mary and Joesph couldn't find him. The way the author writes it he lets you know how scared Mary and Joesph were and how they were running around and up to people asking them if they had seen their son. This is a very moving book and it really captures not only the love God and Jesus has for us but also the love this author has for God and Jesus as well. You can feel how strong this man's faith is. It really speaks to your heart. I was going to put this in the reading interest but it is so moving and powerful I think this is the perfect interest to put it in....
When Jesus was nailed on the cross, he told John that Mary (Jesus' mom) was his mother. He also told Mary that John was his son. This opened a whole new perspective on motherhood--and Mother's Day. Jesus began here a radical concept on being a mother and a son, and on the family, as a whole. Mary and John had no blood relation, but Jesus said they now had, as of the time Jesus spoke this, a kinship thicker than blood--spiritual relationship. The spiritual family, to Jesus' mind, is the real family. Also, once, Jesus' family was fetching him to come home. It was the time his family doubted his sanity. Some people told him that his family was outside the house calling him. He asked them, "Who is my family?" He looked around and pointed to his disciples and said, "These guys here, who do the will of God, are my mothers, brothers, and sisters!"Jesus introduced the Kingdom concept that your real family is your spiritual family. And your real mother is your spiritual mother--one who is deeply surrendered to God's will. I just watched a very interesting documentary today regarding Jesus in the Qur'an. Not only about Jesus but also about Jesus's mother, Mary, Jesus's life, miracles, whether he was crucified or not and also about the 'anti-christ'. Many Christians converted to Islam as they did not understand how Jesus Himself can be God in human form. How he can be degraded and killed by his own creation, humans!Jesus ate like us, slept, relieved himself. Although the crucifixion did take place, but God through His mercy lifted Jesus into the Heavens before he was crucified. Instead, another man who God chose, changed his face to resemble Jesus was put on the cross.
Have you ever started a discussion out of curiousity and thought you'd get a couple of replies,you would have an answer and it would go away to dead discussion land?Then you check your discussions to see if you need to answer any and the dam* thing is back staring you in the face.You say well give it a day .The next dat you come back and there is is right in the very active discussions.It has taken on alife of it's own is getting scary.

In the old testament - Noah and Moses are the 2 men I admire alot - Noah because he had faith, and believed not only in God but in himself enough to know that God had told him to build the ark - not to mention I love animals. Moses because he had personal obstacles to overcome to obey God, and he was passionate for his people. In the new testament I relate alot to Peter, because he was quick to respond without thinking first. The woman I admire in the old testament, Sarah-Abrahams wife and Mary Jesus mom - it must have been something for her to know who Jesus was and raise Him and it must have been aganoizing to see Him died on the cross, and she was among the first followers who receive the Holy Ghost in the upper room.
